A dress for a girl, somewhere in the world

I participated in the fantastic “Dress A Girl Around The World” sew-along at LBG and forgot to share. I had some fun using their pattern and figuring out what stash fabric to use. I love asymmetrical clothing, and have been saving this Sweet Potato Vine from Prairie Gothic, Free Spirit for something exactly like this. It has a fun repetition, as well as both bright and dark colors. I preferred dark colors as a child, and didn’t want something overtly feminine.

You can also see my glass-sparkle M and a bit of my sewing room collage board in the background. Taking photos of sewing projects is a challenge, and some people do it just so darn well! (Side note: My new favorite blog to just look at is A Little Sweetness, I just love the photos, and her mixed topics.)

I really loved browsing through all the entries in the sew-a-long. I love looking at embellishments, and individual takes on a common pattern. See the full Flickr group for your own inspiration!

Also, the pattern for the dress was fantastically easy. I don’t like to finish seams with a zig-zag stitch so I did a french seam on the interior of the dress. Rather than write-up a tutorial for that, let me give you one of Colette’s, because I love Colette Patterns, so so very much: French Seam Tutorial by Sarai.

Hope everyone is out there and enjoying the Spring weather! Of course, Seattle has nothing but rain. I had to move my new seedlings under cover in a vain attempt to protect them from the never-ending downpour. Sigh… I do love it here, I just miss the Sun.

Love,

Let’s face it, I like pictures. A Lot. I have a BA in Writing, but actually, prefer to skim text. Truly, the headlines and catch phrases here and there barely come into focus without the touch of paper on my fingertips; my brain can’t settle down to begin to comprehend words. I dream in pictures, and I dream often. I have plans to participate in Tie One On‘s circus themed apron contest. And oh yes, I am dreaming big for this one. Big Top Big.
