Sometimes, projects sit around for a while. Either lack of all the necessary pieces, lack of inspiration, or being just plain busy. I wanted to make my older sister an apron for ages. She, however, couldn’t decide on colors, and I couldn’t decide on a pattern, so in May of 2010 I asked my mom to crochet some lace for an apron for Jessica. I foolishly believed that her motivation would inspire me. Ha! Finally in January of 2011 I finished it. In less than two hours. Tsk Tsk. I’m a crafty slacker is what I am.
As aprons go, this one is custom and full coverage. Many apron patterns I see, do not actually cover an ample bosom. Or even a small bosom. Grease doesn’t just splatter below the waist!
So in a fit of creative fortitude, I grabbed a yard, folded it in half RST, and drew a shape that looked as curvy as my lovely sister Jessica. The fabric is wonderful, full of many bright colors, and I lined it with a creamy yellow. I even put on some fun handmade tags I purchased from Etsy.
I don’t crochet. I made one wash rag, once, out of boredom. It didn’t go well. So I wasn’t quite sure how to utilize the wonderful handmade crocheted lace on the apron. The lace came in four finished pieces, none the same length. I used half (and plan to use the other half for an apron for my other older sister – shhhh, don’t tell her.) and just kinda, mimicked the round of the very full apron skirt.
I apologize for the recently woken up, still shower-wet hair dreary photos. January doesn’t offer much light in the Pacific Northwest.
My favorite part is the skirt fabric alignment, showing off the tree. She is quite the gardener, and will appreciate the nature motif. Here is a bit of the pocket detail with my crafty mom’s lace! She is so talented!
Right now, I am thinking I might need a new apron too! I am reading this somewhat funny, easy recipe book “How to make love and dinner at the same time” – a cookbook for using the slow-cooker that, like this apron, has been sitting around for ages. Most of the recipes involve canned ingredients, not fresh, and it’s not necessarily focused on healthy eating choices, so I am unsure how great it is. But I’ll let you know. I plan on trying stuffed green peppers soon, in a slow-cooker, crazy stuff!
I hope you guys are finding these cold, dark days of January inspiring and motivational. I suggest finding a project that has been sitting around awhile, and just finish it up right away. Be done with it, and move on to something a bit more exciting!
Love,
MaLora
